Detect any traces

Bloodstains

Blood traces—including old, diluted, or washed-out stains—can be effectively visualized using infrared (IR 850 nm) illumination, which produces strong contrast against dark or patterned fabrics (e.g., jeans, shirts).

Gunshot residue (GSR)

Gunshot residue can be detected using infrared (IR 850 nm) illumination, which reveals high-contrast stippling patterns and powder particles on textured or dark materials.

Fingerprints

Latent fingerprints, including sweat/oil residues or those treated with powders or fluorescent reagents, are clearly visible under blue light (450 nm) or UV (365 nm).

Body fluids

Biological traces such as semen, saliva, and sweat show distinct fluorescence under blue (450 nm) and UV (365 nm) light, especially when viewed through filtering masks. On complex fabrics or fluorescent backgrounds, narrow-band filters can isolate these traces.

Bone and tooth fragments

Fragments of bone and teeth can be identified through their distinctive reflection or fluorescence under UV (365 nm) or blue light (450 nm). These materials stand out against natural backgrounds like soil or vegetation at outdoor crime scenes.

Hair and fibers

Natural and synthetic fibers, as well as hair, often fluoresce under UV (365 nm) or blue light (450 nm). UV light is especially effective for highlighting individual strands or lubricants on dark materials.

Accelerants

Residues of flammable liquids such as gasoline, kerosene, or oils can exhibit fluorescence or altered reflectivity under UV (365 nm) or blue light (450 nm). These visual cues guide targeted sample collection for further chemical analysis (e.g., GC/MS). The complex also supports documenting luminescent traces on varied surfaces.

Highlighted Features

Powerful operating software

Powerful operating software

The Forensic Light Kit is fully integrated with Regula Forensic Studio operating software, which enables image processing, measurements, annotation, markup, image overlay, and visual pointers. It also supports the use of accompanying metadata such as geolocation, descriptions, and shooting conditions—the latter being especially critical for reproducing imaging parameters during forensic examinations. The integration also supports streamlined report generation directly within the software.

Specialized mobile app on the capture device

Specialized mobile app on the capture device

The mobile capture app used in the system is a dedicated Regula application installed on the capture device. It ensures distortion-free photo and video capture, preserving the integrity of visual evidence. The app also allows users to tag images with essential contextual data—such as GPS coordinates and shooting conditions—directly on the device.

Optional backpack for transport

Optional backpack for transport

For greater mobility and convenience, the system can now be supplied with a custom-designed backpack that safely holds all the components of the Regula 3116M in a compact, secure layout. The backpack is highly ergonomic and helps reduce physical strain on the forensic expert when traveling to a crime scene—even in remote or hard-to-reach locations such as forests or rugged terrain.

Preventing cross-contamination

Preventing cross-contamination

Passive cooling systems in light sources are designed to ensure that air remains contained within the device, avoiding the release of airflow into the environment. Unlike active cooling systems that can transfer microscopic particles, passive cooling eliminates the risk of cross-contamination between crime scenes. This is crucial when handling sensitive evidence, where even the slightest contamination could compromise forensic results and the integrity of legal proceedings.

Hardware features

Four types of light

The high-intensity LED light sources—UV 365 nm, Blue 450 nm, Infrared 850 nm, and White—can operate in dual intensity modes, adapting seamlessly to the expert’s specific needs. The kit can detect body fluids, bone and tooth fragments, hair, fibres, general mixed debris, some drug residues, treated fingerprints, accelerants, blood stains and spatter, gunshot residue, and more.

Capture device with a set of cutting filters

The Forensic Light Kit includes a capture device with two autofocus cameras—visible-light and IR—delivering high-precision imaging. Each camera is paired with dedicated cutting filters (three for visible, two for IR) that block unwanted light and reflections, ensuring clear, high-contrast results. By combining the right light source, camera, and filter, investigators adapt to any surface or evidence type. Working together with white, blue, UV, and IR illumination, the system provides forensic experts with exceptional clarity for detecting and documenting traces.

Universal mounting system

The forensic light sources and the capture device can be attached to the special handle for use in various setups, including mounting the equipment on a tripod, an adjustable arm, or a pantograph, depending on the specific requirements of the investigation. The versatility of these mounting options expands the range of forensic applications, enabling experts to adjust the tools to different environments and scenarios, ultimately improving the accuracy and efficiency of evidence detection and documentation.

Viewing goggles with light filters

These lightweight goggles protect your eyes from glare and harmful wavelengths when working with high-intensity forensic lights. Interchangeable filters match white, blue and UV illumination, ensuring safe, comfortable viewing while enhancing contrast and revealing fine details during both field and lab work.

For the Crime Scene or the Laboratory

Crime Scene Use

At a crime scene, the Forensic Light Kit delivers everything required to detect and document evidence immediately: a full set of forensic lights (white, blue 450 nm, UV 365 nm, IR 850 nm), a capture device with specialised software for image recording, and an adjustable arm to position light and device precisely. The kit is packed in a dedicated backpack, making it easy to carry to the site. Investigators can select the appropriate forensic light, set it up, and capture traces such as blood, GSR, fingerprints, hairs, fibers, and accelerants. The capture software secures reliable photos with embedded geotags and shooting conditions, ensuring court-ready documentation before the scene changes.

Laboratory Use

In the laboratory, the Forensic Light Kit adapts for extended, detailed examination. Forensic lights and the capture device can be mounted on a tripod, boom arm, or pantograph for stable and repeatable illumination over the bench. The forensic lights can operate on AC power or provide more than 4 hours of continuous work with Li-ion rechargeable batteries, ensuring flexibility in different conditions. Evidence from the scene—small, fragile, or complex—can be studied under controlled conditions while selecting the required light and filters without disturbing samples. The system integrates with Regula Forensic Studio, enabling instant processing of captured images, precise measurements, annotations, side-by-side comparisons, and automatic report generation. This configuration ensures that raw evidence is transformed into structured, court-ready results directly from the lab.
