Serial Number

The unique combination of letters and (or) numbers, which is assigned to each banknote. It is usually printed by letterpress. UV, Infrared, and magnetic inks can be used to print serial numbers. Information about a year of issue and series, an issuing bank, a factory, a face value, etc. may be encoded in serial numbers (fig. 1).
