To support the continued modernization of its forensic laboratory capabilities and further standardize forensic examination workflows, the Brazilian Federal Police upgraded part of its existing Regula forensic examination infrastructure with the latest generation of Regula technologies.

Top-class forensic workstations for major laboratories

The Brazilian Federal Police deployed dual-video spectral comparators, Regula 4308, in the National Institute of Criminalistics (INC) in Brasília and the central laboratory in Rio de Janeiro. The new systems replace previous-generation equipment and enable experts to analyze questioned documents with the highest level of precision.

Regula 4308 combines high-resolution imaging, extended optical magnification (up to 320x), more than 40 light sources, integrated top- and bottom-view cameras, a built-in spectrometer, and advanced visualization modes in a single forensic workstation. The system also supports inspection of embossed features, ink differentiation, RFID chip reading, and automated document verification, helping experts perform comprehensive examinations without switching between multiple tools.

During practical use of the system, one of the key operational advantages observed was its wide field of view, allowing analysts to examine entire A4-sized documents without splitting the analysis into separate fragments. This contributes to greater efficiency during forensic examinations.

Unified software for precision and consistency

The Regula 4308 comparators operate on Regula Forensic Studio, the company’s proprietary forensic examination software platform. The software provides advanced tools for image examination and comparison, as well as reporting, helping experts streamline and standardize forensic workflows.

A key advantage of the platform is its ability to simplify comparative analysis — a fundamental method in forensic document examination. Using Regula Forensic Studio together with Regula Information Reference Systems, experts can compare questioned documents against trusted reference samples, analyze security features side by side, and identify inconsistencies.

Specialized training for forensic experts

To support effective adoption of new technologies, Regula also provided specialized training for the Brazilian Federal Police forensic experts.
