Each year in Regula’s three-decade journey has brought something significant — new technologies, product launches, key partnerships, and solid business results.
2025 is the first year we’ve decided to review publicly. For the team, it’s a moment of pride and motivation for what’s ahead. For our current and future clients, it’s a snapshot of what we’ve achieved and a glimpse into the tech opportunities we can explore together.
Let’s take a closer look.
What we introduced: Major product launches and updates
As a software and hardware development company, Regula continues to enhance its products to meet evolving technologies, trends, and business needs. Here are just a few of the highlights from 2025:
Software highlights
Regula IDV Platform is live — We launched the Regula IDV Platform, an all-in-one solution for enterprise-grade workflow orchestration and identity lifecycle management. It brings together a wide range of tools — from document and biometric checks to KYC and AML screening — into a single environment. The platform supports flexible, pre-built workflows for different customer groups and use cases, helping organizations manage multiple IDV processes efficiently and cut operational costs.
New tech for verifying dynamic security features remotely — In 2025, we became the first vendor to introduce automated verification of all dynamic security features, including Optically Variable Ink (OVI), Multiple Laser Images (MLIs), and holograms. Traditionally, these features required manual inspection or specialized equipment. Now, with Regula Document Reader SDK, they can be verified remotely using just a smartphone camera. This innovation significantly improves the accuracy and reliability of remote ID checks.
Expanded document template database — As countries regularly update the designs and security features of passports, ID cards, driver’s licenses, and other IDs, we expand our document library to keep pace.
In 2025, Regula added over 2,000 new templates, bringing the total to more than 16,000 documents from 254 countries and territories. While many of these updates came in response to customer requests, our team also tracks all major document changes independently.

In 2025, many countries updated their identity documents in some way. For example, Ethiopia launched its first locally made biometric passport, while San Marino significantly updated its ID card, which now includes advanced security features.
Support for the new chip standard — Electronic IDs are evolving, especially in how biometric data is stored. A key development is the ISO/IEC 39794-5 standard, which defines methods for facial data storage and verification in e-passport chips. According to ICAO guidelines, IDV vendors must support this standard by 2030.
Regula is among the early adopters. Our Document Reader SDK, compatible with most document readers, already extracts, interprets, and verifies biometric facial data encoded using this standard.
Support for Digital Travel Credentials (DTCs) — Recently, ICAO introduced DTCs, a new, globally interoperable travel document format designed to speed up travel clearance procedures. While adoption has just begun, Regula software already supports DTCs in full compliance with ICAO guidelines and technical specifications.
Hardware highlights
Portable tools for ID checks on the go — One of our most notable portable solutions is the ForensicScope Regula 4125, unmatched in its class. It combines a full set of professional forensic features in a smartphone-sized device. In addition to standard document checks, it can detect face morphing — a subtle counterfeiting technique where a thin, altered image is layered over the photo area of an ID. The Regula 4125 operates fully autonomously, ensuring accurate document checks at mobile checkpoints.
This task can also be effectively handled with the Regula 4166, a compact, pen-sized morphing detector designed for quick verification. It can be used alongside other Regula tools for document authentication in forensic labs or at border control checkpoints.

Despite their compact format, the Regula 4125 (left) and Regula 4166 (right) can detect even sophisticated document manipulations.
The redefined Regula 4306M — We redesigned one of our most trusted forensic tools. The Regula 4306M now features high-end optics and smarter lighting. With over 40 light sources, including advanced coaxial, Anti-Stokes, and diffused white light, it reveals even the most elusive security features, from polycarbonate reliefs to DID and OVD elements. Paired with a new 8 MP camera and up to 210x magnification, it delivers lab-grade clarity in a compact form.
Remote document examination — We also introduced a new method for second-line border checks. The remote document examination framework features the Regula 88XX, a high-resolution scanner that captures detailed images of IDs within seconds. This setup allows officers at remote or under-equipped checkpoints to scan and securely transmit questioned documents to a central lab for expert analysis without relying on insecure channels like chat apps or email.
A new arrival among mobile verification tools — The new Regula 7320 brings border-grade identity checks to the field. Built for border control, transport security, and regulated industries, it performs full ID verification, RFID reading, face matching, and even fingerprint capture on the spot. With Regula IDV Platform integration, every result is automatically synced to back-office systems — whether online or offline. Add high-resolution visible and IR imaging, advanced UV rendering, and an 11,000 mAh battery, and you get a powerful, field-ready device that turns mobile checks into a seamless part of your identity workflow.

Major upgrade to our forensic light kit — Our first step into the field of forensic crime scene equipment, the Regula 3116M, has been significantly upgraded through integration with Regula Forensic Studio, our unified software for all hardware products. This enhancement makes the device equally effective for both fieldwork and lab-based analysis. Forensic labs and field teams now operate with a consistent set of tools and protocols from data capture to the final report.
Built-in privacy across all Regula devices — With the updated Regula Forensic Studio, Regula now offers personal data masking across its entire ecosystem. Experts can instantly blur sensitive details like names, photos, or ID numbers during forensic analysis, making it easier to meet GDPR, CCPA, and other global privacy rules. This feature now empowers border control, law enforcement, and forensic teams to stay compliant without disrupting their workflows.
Featured success stories from new Regula clients
In 2025, Regula solutions were integrated across various industries and geographies and with a variety of identification technologies.
One example is our collaboration with REACT, a Spanish developer of digital verification tools like ID Wallet, ID Pay, and ID Verifier. Regula software helped automate and speed up ID checks during customer onboarding.
Another success story comes from iCard, a European fintech company. By using Regula’s document and biometric verification tools, iCard not only boosted in-app conversion rates but also cut operational costs thanks to the seamless verification experience.
Regula hardware also played a growing role in border security. The video spectral comparator Regula 4306 was deployed at Wattay International Airport in Vientiane, Laos. It strengthens document authentication at border control by detecting even highly sophisticated forgeries.
Also, in 2025, Regula partnered with Indicio, a leader in decentralized identity, to bring verifiable credentials into identity verification. This collaboration integrates Regula’s powerful document and biometric verification tools with Indicio’s decentralized identity infrastructure.
As a result, organizations can issue digital credentials after securely verifying a person’s identity, enabling faster, privacy-focused, and reusable verification across platforms. It’s a step forward toward trusted, user-controlled digital identity.
